What is it?
 
Hallux Valgus, which is often referred to as a bunion, is a deformity at the major flexing joint of the big toe.  This joint is called the first metatarsal phalangeal joint (1st MTP joint).  The end of the big toe angles towards the smaller toes causing the joint to enlarge, appearing as a lump on the joint.  This enlargement or bunion can be red and swollen and is often painful.
What causes it?
  • Overpronation
  • Congenital
  • Anatomical abnormalities like Morton's Syndrome
  • Improper footware
